Bulgaria and back.... To Romania

Hello from Calarasi, Romania.

After a 1st stop in Polsko Kossovo, Bulgaria, in Miro's family, i left part of my luggage and continued south to Veliko Turnovo, an old city with a fortress, and a German host friend of Heidi (from Ruse), Arlett. Before living to VT I had followed Miro and his wife, in the car, to go to Ruse and take back Miro's mother with us, after she had spend some time at hospital. There in Ruse we had a coffee with his sister en niece, and even had a stop at the METRO supermarket....

Then later in the morning i went to the shop in Poslko Kossovo with Miro and even baught a 52 cars game with gipsy girls on them.... now i'm ready to play cards with people on the way !

In VT with Arlett we had a Kebab! 1st since.... Bucharest, but good too. Then we talked a lot, and ended up in frount of a web site to learn German, or at least explain the 4 cases in German, to en English speaking foreigner.

On Thursday i visited VT by myself, the fortress and everything, without sun but without rain.

In the evening Jeanette met in Ruse before, came and joined, as she was going to go with Arlett to Sofia next day. We had an evening watching pictures and eating a salad plus a 'quiche sans pate' made by me.

On Friday i went back to Poska Kossovo, under the rain but with my rain clothes on, with a stop in Arbanasi village (and the 10% up hill to go there), and spent the afternoon resting and getting warmer.

In the evening we went with Miro and his wife, to some friends of them in the village, had food and drinks, and even danced with the music from the Folk TV channel.

Saterday i staid in PK to rest, check things on the internet and prepare pancakes for everyone. In the afternoon I helped Miro to plant a tree, and watched him change the tires of his car and prepare food for the cow and other animals they have.

Saterday evening went easy and calm, with a phone call from my parents, and sunday morning i got ready to leave at 9 am.... for a 143 km that took me to Isperih.

In Isperih and after a cold day, i met Dragomir, went for a few drinks and sandwitches, visited a bit the town in the dark, looked for some wireless, and went to sleep early, around 9:30, in a flat with nobody (Dragomir could not host at his place as he lives in one room with kid and whife, and the un heated house of his brother he could offer, would have been freezing by the 2 Celcius degrees we had that night...). A good night of sleep, a meeting with Drago's whife to give the kees back and find the way to Bulgaria, and i was on the road at 9:30, 'nearly' full of energy...

This evening i write from Romania, Calarasi, 90km from Isperih, and after a 1st part of day hilly and sunny, and a second part of day flat and covered with clouds. Tonight the temperature seems to be -3 C...

Funny part of the day, i did not pay the ferry to cross from Bulgaria to Romania. And it seems to be common and known, even if at the 'Casa' they have a price for passengers and bikes...

Other funny thing today, i realised thanks to Teodor that the borders between Bulgaria and Romania have only one checkpoint, not 2 as between lots of other countries, and this is because of the future entrance in the Shengen zone. I had not noticed it in Ruse because, I think, i had a 1st stop at the place where people pay for the tax for the bridge (and bikes don't pay), and considered it to be a 1st checkpoint when it was absolutely not one....

Last less funny thing, i lost one part of my back Ortlieb panniers today and will have to fix this tomorrow... on a day off... as i will try to change my back brakes and tighten my front brakes too... lots of fun in advance !

Then, my futures hosts should be quite far away from here, so i plan a next long day of riding in the cold....

Noapte buna...

Pictures here !
